
A massive solar flare and particle eruption happened on the sun on June 7! A solar flare is a bright spot on the sun, which is a pretty common event (there were about 70 small solar flares in the past year). The thing that made this one so special is its enormous size!

Scientists think that the solar blast was over 600,000 miles wide! That distance is equal to travelling all the way around the Earth 24 times!
